Ukhozi FM’s Loved Voice: Zanele Mbokazi-Nkambule, a Radio Icon and Crown Gospel Music Awards Founder, Passes Away
Early Monday morning, Zanele Mbokazi-Nkambule, a beloved presenter at Ukhozi FM and the founder of the Crown Gospel Music Awards, succumbed to her battle with lung cancer. Her husband, Bishop Mpendulo Nkambule, released a heartfelt statement announcing her passing.
“It’s with a heavy heart that we, the Nkambule and Mbokazi families, announce the passing of our beloved Ms.
Zanele Mbokazi-Nkambule, founder of the Crown Gospel Music Awards and a prominent voice at Ukhozi FM,” the statement began. “We are grateful for the prayers, love, and support we received during her illness. The family requests privacy as we navigate this difficult time.”
Despite her diagnosis in May, Mbokazi-Nkambule’s illness became evident in April when she missed her show, Eshilo, on Ukhozi FM. The following Sunday, she struggled to complete her show, leading to her being rushed to the hospital.
Mbokazi-Nkambule was 52 years old at the time of her passing. Tributes and condolences have poured in from across social media, highlighting her impact and legacy.
“What a way to start the week. Condolences to her family, friends, and everyone affected. May her soul rest in peace. ‘I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith,’” tweeted @MYavhudi, quoting II Timothy 4:7 NKJV.
“Mom Zanele Mbokazi Nkambule is a visionary leader and a woman of purpose. She changed so many lives, including mine. To my mother, we are grateful for your impact in this generation. So painful to lose her. Rest in God’s hands, Mama,” wrote @biphakathi.
Joy_zelda expressed her sorrow, saying, “Mama Zanele Mbokazi changed the lives of many gospel singers in South Africa. She became the founder of the Gospel Crown Awards to recognize their talents.
She was an icon and a legend in my eyes. Rest in peace, Mama. What a sad day.”
