Julianne Hough is shedding light on the dynamics that led to the end of her relationship with former beau Ryan Seacrest. Hough, who was involved with Seacrest for over three years, from 2010 to 2013, has recently delved into the details of her past romances, particularly the factors that made her and Seacrest an incompatible pair.
The Reason Behind Julianne Hough & Ryan Seacrest’s Separation During her appearance on the Armchair Expert podcast hosted by Dax Shepard, Hough pondered over her time with Seacrest and how the timing of their relationship – coinciding with her burgeoning career and his already established status – caused her constant concern about public perception.
“I felt like the ground was pulled out from under me, and I was soaring, encountering experiences I never knew were possible,” Hough recounted. “But then, I had this nagging doubt that I never wanted anyone to think I was with him for the wrong reasons.”
Hough clarified that given Seacrest’s past where he was “used” by others, she felt the need to assert that she was not doing the same, which likely contributed to a relationship that didn’t meet her expectations.
“I compensated by being adaptable, shaping myself into whatever was needed for the other person’s happiness,” the ex-Dancing With the Stars professional elaborated. “What I’ve come to understand over time is that I’m not sure if I’ve truly been in love with someone, but I have cherished the feeling of being loved. So, I became who I needed to be to receive that love.”
She further reflected, “And because I was so full of someone else’s love, naturally, I loved them.
I’ve loved everyone I’ve dated, or have I? I don’t want to dissect it too much because everyone I’ve dated has been a wonderful person.”
Following her breakup with Seacrest in 2013, Hough went on to date and later marry hockey player Brooks Laich in 2017. However, she filed for divorce in 2020.
“We have taken the time we needed to thoughtfully arrive at our decision to part ways,” the couple stated in a joint announcement at the time. “We hold a wealth of love and respect for each other and will continue to lead with our hearts.
”
Their divorce was finalized in 2022.
Julianne Hough is currently serving as a co-host on Dancing With the Stars, working alongside the primary host, Alfonso Ribeiro. Simultaneously, Seacrest continues his role as the host of American Idol.
