Lionel Richie imparts valuable advice to Carrie Underwood as she readies to assume Katy Perry’s role on the “American Idol” judging panel.
During a special event at the Grammy Museum, when Fox News Digital inquired how Underwood might differ as a judge from Perry, Richie responded, “Nobody is a carbon copy of Katy.”
Richie emphasized his desire for Underwood not to emulate Perry, highlighting the unique perspectives each judge brings to the table.
“There's only one Katy… let me just make that statement clear,” Richie stated to Fox News Digital at the special screening of “The Greatest Night in Pop. ” “I want Carrie to be true to herself, to discover her own judging style. I’m thrilled they’ve chosen Carrie because we need someone who will add their own sparkle.”
Underwood, who triumphed in the fourth season of “American Idol” in 2005, has previously contributed to the show by narrating the opening sequence in 2018 and serving as a guest adviser the following year.
The “All Night Long” singer is delighted to have the former “American Idol” champion joining the team and believes Underwood is an ideal match.
“Carrie truly gets it. She’s been through this journey herself… This is where her journey began… So, we’re excited to welcome her… She’s going to be a fantastic addition,” Richie added.
The “Before He Cheats” singer is set to join Richie and fellow country star Luke Bryan on the judging panel for the upcoming season of “American Idol,” with auditions commencing on Aug.
