Celine Dion targeted Donald Trump on Saturday for his use of her song from the “Titanic” disaster film at a political rally, which details the story of a sinking cruise ship.
Trump faced mockery on social platforms after featuring the 1997 hit “My Heart Will Go On” at a Montana rally on Friday, where a video of Dion’s performance was displayed to the crowd.
A joint statement from Dion’s management and Sony Music Entertainment Canada stated that the use of the song and video was definitely not approved.
“Celine Dion does not support this or any comparable usage… And seriously, THAT song? ” the statement continued.
Social media users have drawn parallels between Trump’s campaign and the doomed ship from James Cameron’s movie.
Trump has been at a disadvantage since Kamala Harris stepped in to replace Joe Biden as the presidential candidate.
Trump seemed poised to reclaim the presidency before Biden’s withdrawal from the race in July, but Harris has seen significant gains after taking over the top spot and naming Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her vice presidential candidate.
“My Heart Will Go On” is featured on Dion’s album “Let’s Talk About Love” and the “Titanic” movie soundtrack. It became an iconic track, selling 18 million copies and winning Dion an Academy Award, a Golden Globe, and multiple Grammy Awards.
The 56-year-old Dion had to call off a series of concerts for 2023 and 2024, citing her lack of strength to tour due to an autoimmune disease diagnosis.
Despite this, she thrilled fans with a performance at the Eiffel Tower for the Paris Olympics opening ceremony last month.
