"Deadpool & Wolverine" has shattered records to become the highest-grossing R-rated global box office opener in history, accumulating a remarkable $438.3 million globally. In North America, it achieved the eighth-largest opening weekend with $205 million in ticket sales. This unprecedented milestone not only signifies the most successful R-rated launch both domestically and internationally, outpacing previous records set by "Deadpool" and "Joker," but also stands as the year's biggest opening across the world.
The film has also become the top-grossing opening weekend movie since "Avatar: The Way of Water" in 2022. Its success has boosted the Marvel Cinematic Universe to surpass the $30 billion mark globally,solidifying its position as the highest-grossing film franchise of all time.
The movie, featuring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, emerged as the top non-local film in every international market.
Its release, which included China for the first time — a market where the original was banned and the sequel heavily censored for a PG rating — outpaced "Deadpool" by 56% and "Deadpool 2" by 50%, and exceeded "Joker" by 37%.
In the U.S., "Deadpool & Wolverine" outstripped "Black Panther's" $202 million opening, coming close to surpassing "The Avengers'" $207 million and "Jurassic World's" $208 million.
