The first-ever La Grange Country Music Jam kicked off on August 10 with a bang, as the local country band Trailer Park Twisters took the stage at Gordon Park and performed nearly two hours of music for an audience that steadily swelled throughout their set.
The event, which was free to the public and organized by the Park District of La Grange, featured the band playing a selection of country classics by artists such as Loretta Lynn, Patsy Cline, and Waylon Jennings.
Connie Cipher, the vocalist and rhythm guitarist for Trailer Park Twisters, expressed her excitement after the performance, saying, “We are honored to open the first-ever Country Jam, and it was awesome. I think it’s really cool that we have these pockets of country music in the Chicago area. Country has a special place in my heart, so I’m glad to be here.”
The band also performed hits like Dolly Parton’s “Jolene,” Waylon Jennings’ “Good Hearted Woman,” and “Ain’t That America” by John Mellencamp.
The event drew a diverse crowd, including Brookfield resident Kathleen Cecconi, who said, “Oh, I am a country music fan, mostly Bluegrass. I just saw Vince Gill and he played for four hours … I love good music and Nashville was just out of this world.”
La Grange Park resident Peter, who attended the event, compared it to the discontinued Endless SummerFest and found the Country Jam to be a fitting replacement.
