A freshly released teaser for the much-anticipated second season of Squid Game has finally addressed a key question about the Netflix series’ comeback.
Throughout its first season, consisting of nine episodes, Squid Game followed Seong Gi-hun, portrayed by Emmy winner Lee Jung-jae, a divorcee with a gambling problem, as he and 455 other individuals were transported to a clandestine island facility to participate in a series of lethal versions of children’s games.
After surviving the brutal competition as the last person standing, Gi-hun was on his way to the airport to see his daughter in Los Angeles. However, upon witnessing the man who recruited him for the game enlisting another participant, Gi-hun grabbed a business card from the stranger, called the number, and declared his quest to uncover the identities of the game’s orchestrators and their motives for such horrors.
The season finale left viewers in suspense about how Gi-hun would proceed, but the synopsis for Season 2, along with the accompanying video, reveals that he will don the tracksuit once more as Player 456 and return to the fatal contest.
“Three years after triumphing in Squid Game, Player 456 is resolute in his pursuit to locate the masterminds behind the game and bring their cruel activity to a close,” the official synopsis informs us. “When he finally makes progress, the route to dismantling the organization turns out to be more perilous than he anticipated: to stop the game, he must participate once again.”
The question remains, why would the Front Man permit Gi-hun to rejoin, knowing his intent to eradicate the Squid Game for good? We’ll likely find out when Squid Game resumes for its second season on Thursday, Dec.
26, with a third and final season expected in 2025.
